Cape Town paragliding: where the flight starts and lands
Cape Town paragliding is a tandem flight: you are strapped to a pilot who handles the wing, so you need no experience. The flights start from Signal Hill or from Lion's Head, depending on the wind. From Signal Hill the route runs over Sea Point toward the promenade. When the wind swings more southwest, the flight leaves Lion's Head, heads toward Camps Bay for the landing.
Some flights are described as having views of Table Mountain because that is what you see, not because the take-off is on the mountain itself. Before the launch your pilot briefs you and you practise a few steps of the run-up, so wear closed shoes you can run in, comfortable clothes and a light jacket.

Our picks: Cape Town paragliding
All four are tandem flights from Signal Hill at the same price. Take the flight with the park permit included for the simplest total, the flight with a pilot in your language for a talkative briefing, or the coastline flight for the Atlantic view.

Tandem paragliding in Cape Town: the four flights compared
Prices as of November 2026. All four flights cost 106 USD per person, so the difference lies in what comes with the ticket.
The coastline flight lists 45 minutes, but the time in the air is 5 to 20 minutes, depending on wind and thermals. It includes the flight with an instructor and all certified equipment, with an optional transfer back to the take-off site. GoPro pictures and videos can be bought on site.
The flight with Table Mountain views comes with a pilot who speaks your chosen language and a free shuttle back up to the take-off point after landing. Its listed 40 minutes is a validity period, and the flight itself is shorter.
The flight with an introduction to free flight lists 50 minutes in total and includes the transfer back to the launch. It is not suitable for guests over 118 kg.
The fourth flight is the simplest to budget: the Table Mountain National Park activity permit is already in the 106 USD, and return transport to the launch is included if you need it. This pilot asks for no flying experience. Photos and video are an optional extra at R400.
Best time for paragliding in Cape Town
Flights run nearly all year, but October to April gives the more reliable weather, with November to February as the core of that window. Early morning and late afternoon often bring calmer air. The instructor decides on the day: a flight can be delayed, moved, shortened or cancelled when the wind is wrong, and a new date is offered where possible. For wind and cloud on the mountain, see our Table Mountain weather guide.
Who can fly
Two of the four flights exclude children under 14 and pregnant guests, and one of them also excludes people with heart problems. Tell your pilot about recent injuries, operations and medical conditions in advance, and do not fly after alcohol. You need to be able to run a few steps comfortably to launch.
The park regulates paragliding to protect take-off areas and nesting birds of prey, which is why flights use designated launch sites only. If you would rather stay on foot, our Lion's Head hiking guide covers the same peak from below.
